Recognized / Not Recognized

Description

Two photos of the same event, taken at the same time, from the same point of view. One photo is repeated thousands of times on the web, the other barely or not at all. Why is one image more successful than another? In Recognized / Not Recognized, Coralie Vogelaar makes a comparative study between popular and unpopular news images. She shows the result in an intriguing video installation designed in collaboration with choreographer Marjolein Vogels. Nine dancers move from one frozen position to another. Each pair of original news photos on which this movement study is based were taken at the same time and place.
