Failed Futures and Extended Borders

Description

Failed Futures and Extended Borders was developed within the context of the Dutch Prix de Rome prize 2015 and is based on a series of interviews with Yassin Elsrakbi (b.1943), Foundland member Ghalia Elsrakbi’s father, collected during 2015. As Syrian refugee living in Cairo, Yassin Elsrakbi is an avid news watcher, collector, and analyst who gathers his updates about Syria from a wide variety of sources, piecing them together in an attempt to understand the complex relations at play. Foundland probed Elsrakbi’s memory regarding the shifting boundaries of the country during his lifetime. Based on his analytical future proposals, Foundland scripted possible constellations for the country.
